Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is often cited as a key part of our future energy system. The rapid growth of a fleet of batteries on wheels, most of which are not used for over 95% of the time, could provide a key potential source of flexibility to the grid. However, the technology and commercial models remain at a very early stage.

This electric vehicle and electricity system forum looked at the barriers to V2G and some of the projects, case studies and business models that are currently underway to trial the viability of the concept. We then questioned how much value can be gained from both fleet and domestic V2G technology, what is required to take V2G to the next level and what can be done within the industry to help this.

The event featured some of the industry leaders in V2G, including Cenex, Nuvve, Kaluza, DriveElectric, and others, to hear about their latest experiences and taking a candid look at what the future holds for V2G.

Presentations for the day:

Speakers included:

  • Tom Pakenham, director of Electric Vehicles, Kaluza
  • Claire Weiller, business and product manager, Nuvve
  • James Morgan, Senior Policy Advisor, Energy Team, Office for Low Emission Vehicles
  • Melanie Potter, development manager, DriveElectric
