This forum brings together organisations engaged in the electric vehicle revolution with those involved in the electricity system to discuss the challenges and opportunities from the growth of the electric vehicle market.

With the government mandating that all charge points installed from 1 July 2019 under the electric vehicle home charge scheme are to be smart, the sector is keen to understand smart charging and the opportunities it unlocks. The second version of this popular forum covered:

  • What are the new smart charge point requirements and how will they impact the sector?
  • How will managed charging by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) interact with smart charging?
  • What is the scale of opportunities in system flexibility that smart charging will unlock and how will the value be shared?

This event explored smart charging from diverse perspectives including government, charge-point manufacturers, aggregators, DNOs and OEMs. It enabled informed in-depth debate for key players in the energy and transport sectors looking to take advantage of smart charging and the benefits for the energy system.

Presentations from the day:

Speakers include:

  • James Morgan, policy advisor – energy team, Office for Low Emission Vehicles
  • Chris Cox, head of energy systems and infrastructure, Cenex
  • Alex Earl, UK country manager, Alfen
  • Clem Cowton, director of external affairs, Octopus Energy
  • Adriana Laguna, senior innovation strategy manager, UK Power Networks
  • Ross Fairley, partner, Burges Salmon

The event is run in partnership with Cenex and is kindly hosted by Burges Salmon.

Regen launched “Harnessing the Electric Vehicle Revolution” in London to a wide audience of leading organisations. There was a strong view at the event that there is a need for greater dialogue and joint working to tackle topics such as smart charging, linking up EV’s with renewable generation and opportunities to provide services to the electricity network. We are, therefore, setting up this forum of businesses, local authorities, utilities, and policymakers as an opportunity for discussion, networking, and collaboration.

EWiRE EV Lunch

Ahead of the EV and Electricity System Forum, Regen will also held the third Entrepreneurial Women in Renewable Energy network (EWiRE) EV Lunch. This forum aims to increase the visibility and profile of women in the EV sector, whilst looking at some of the key opportunities and challenges that face the sector as a whole.
