Regen is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Kay as its new chair.
Alison brings extensive experience spanning energy networks, regulation, strategy, governance and the transition to a cleaner energy system. During almost 25 years at National Grid, she held roles including group general counsel and company secretary, before becoming interim director of strategy and corporate affairs.
Since leaving National Grid, Alison has developed a portfolio of non-executive roles across the energy sector. She joined the board of Pulse Clean Energy in 2022 and has also served on the board of AusNet, which owns and operates electricity and gas networks in Victoria, Australia.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for the UK energy transition, as the focus shifts increasingly from setting clean energy ambitions to delivering the infrastructure, markets and reforms needed to achieve them.
Alison steps in to replace outgoing chair Michael Huntingford, who has been a member of Regen’s board since 2009 and has served as chair for more than a decade.

Her understanding of the complexities of the energy system, from her many years at the heart of the UK’s energy networks and her board-level experience in clean energy, will be hugely valuable as we look ahead to the next phase of the transition. “I’d also like to thank Michael for his extraordinary contribution to Regen over more than 15 years. He has helped guide the organisation through a period of enormous change, from our roots in the south-west renewable energy sector to the leading role we play today in providing independent, evidence-led insight and advice to transform the UK’s energy system.”
Alison said: “The energy transition is one of the defining challenges facing the UK. In my career I've seen first-hand the complexity of the energy system, the challenges of delivering change at scale, and perhaps most importantly the importance of bringing together different perspectives to find practical solutions. I very much believe that Regen has an important role to play in convening people and providing the evidence, insight and practical experience to influence the decisions that will shape our energy future.
“The next phase of the energy transition presents significant challenges, but also an enormous opportunity to build a cleaner, more resilient and fairer energy system.
