After being awarded Net Zero Developer at Regen’s Green Energy Awards, Thrive Renewables reflects on 30 years of bringing together people, proven technology and a pioneering approach to accelerate the rollout of renewables.
This year’s Green Energy Awards saw professionals, businesses and community energy organisations from across the sector celebrating their work to deliver a cleaner, fairer energy system – reminding us that there is power in coming together. Through collaboration and innovation, clean energy has hit new milestones, and it was truly inspiring to witness some of these landmark moments throughout the evening.
Thrive Renewables was honoured to be awarded Net Zero Developer at the awards for a second time. And it’s particularly special to be recognised by the judges as “a true exemplar of the energy transition” in our milestone 30th birthday year.
Since building some of the UK’s first ever commercial-scale wind projects in the 1990s, Thrive has built and funded 44 wind, solar and hydro projects, plus invested in breakthrough technologies like the UK’s first geothermal power plant in Cornwall. We also empower communities to take control of their energy future – investing over £20 million in community energy projects to date, plus helping businesses to decarbonise through direct-wire wind and solar.
By taking a flexible and collaborative approach, Thrive is able to get more clean energy projects off the ground, faster – helping push landmark projects over the line, like Scotland’s first subsidy-free 100% community-owned wind turbine, and England’s largest onshore wind turbine in Bristol, owned by Ambition Community Energy (ACE). It was brilliant to see ACE and other projects we have funded recognised at the awards, including Eden Sustainable and Ryan Law of Geothermal Engineering Limited.
As a member of Regen, we’re able to connect with more changemakers across the UK and bring our voices together to drive policy change. As part of this vibrant network, we contribute to consultations and reports, working with other members to break down key barriers to the transition.
Supporting each other through challenges and breakthroughs as we work together to push fossil fuels off the grid for good, we have shown that collaboration and innovation can go hand in hand.
