The Element in the Room – a book of poems inspired by energy, renewable energy in particular and a book of pictures inspired by poems about renewable energy.

Matt Harvey is Regen’s poet in residence.  Writer, poet, enemy of all that’s difficult and upsetting, Matt’s way with words has taken him from Totnes to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships via Saturday Live, the Edinburgh Festival and the Work section of the Guardian.

As part of Matt’s residence at Regen, he has written The Element in the Room – a book of poems inspired by energy, renewable energy in particular and a book of pictures inspired by poems about renewable energy. Among them there’s a sonnet, a country and western song and a prose poem called The Not-for-Prophit. You get the picture. None is intended as a last word, they are offered for your pleasure and interest and to provoke discussion.

The illustrations are by a range of talented artists, to be specific: Heidi Ball, Laura Cochon, Tori Dee, Chloë Uden, Josie Ashe, Naomi  Ziewe Palmer and More than Minutes.

Matt has performed the material developed in this residency for hundreds of people at literary festivals and events across the UK and the poems have appeared in resurgence magazine, local papers and in the sustainable energy trade press!

This book was produced with support from The Centre for Business and Climate Solutions at Exeter University and was published September 2013.
