How we pay for the energy network is changing: what does this mean for community and local energy?

This is a critical time to influence how we pay for the energy network. Getting connected to the network is key to any community renewables project and anyone thinking about local supply will also have considered the cost. This online forum helped community and local energy stakeholders in Western Power Distribution’s region understand Ofgem’s ‘minded-to’ proposals on the Network Access and Forward-looking Charges Significant Code Review (SCR), and potential impacts on local energy projects. At the forum, we explained these proposals, with experts on network charging helping us explore impacts on the democratisation and decarbonisation of our energy system. We invited community energy representatives to feedback on the proposed changes, and helped them to respond to Ofgem’s consultation, to influence the final decisions on how we pay for the network.
