Dr Charles Ogilvie, who recently concluded his role as Director of Strategy for COP26 at the UK Cabinet Office, has joined net zero energy experts Regen as a non-executive director to guide the organisation’s strategic policy impact.

He brings a wealth of experience in climate policy and political insight to support Regen’s mission to accelerate the journey to zero carbon energy.

Charles Ogilvie commented:

“It’s pivotal time in the UK’s energy transition. Soaring consumer costs have been triggered by an unprecedented global energy crisis and there are difficult policy choices on the road to Net Zero.

In this context Regen’s voice and impact has never been more important, which is why I’m delighted to support their continued growth.

Having experienced first-hand the key role Regen play in driving intelligent policy design in Whitehall, I look forward to working with Merlin and the whole team to ensure ministers and policy makers continue to benefit from their leading independent insight and analysis.

Merlin Hyman, chief executive at Regen, commented:

“Regen is thrilled to start the new year by welcoming Charles Ogilvie to our board as we step up our work and impact to meet the scale of the challenge of achieving net zero energy.

Charlie will be leading a new board sub-group focused on how we can use Regen’s expertise to inform and shape public policy, regulation and market structures to achieve a transformation in our energy system.”

Charles Ogilvie’s career to date has seen him spend over a decade working with policy makers, investors and business leaders in a number of roles, including founding and growing a successful energy services project development platform.

As Director of Strategy for COP26 at the UK Cabinet Office, he had an instrumental role in delivering the UK’s successful COP Presidency. He joined the Cabinet office following on from his role leading on climate and energy policy as a Special Advisor in the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy during the period that Britain became the first country in the G7 to legislate for Net Zero. He is currently a strategist and entrepreneur working in the energy and climate sectors.
