Regen works closely with BEIS, CLG, local authorities and communities to ensure that local plans and neighbourhood planning policies are evidence based and sound.

We supply evidence to support the development of planning policy, produce guidance, attend Examinations in Public and respond to consultations from local authorities.

Examples include:

Supporting the inclusion of renewable energy and sustainable design policies in neighbourhood planning – 2016

In early 2016, Regen undertook a pilot project for the Department of Energy and Climate Change to increase the integration of renewable energy and sustainable design policies in neighbourhood planning. We developed and tested model policies and guidance for communities and local authorities to make that process easier, more robust and aspirational.

Renewable Energy Assessment: Core Strategy Greenfield Sites for Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) Council – 2014

Regen produced a model and accompanying report for B&NES to estimate the potential for solar PV on greenfield development sites in the area.  The evidence was used to demonstrate the potential for sites to meet an onsite renewable energy requirement policy.  Regen supported B&NES at their Examination in Public to include the policy in their Placemaking Plan.  Click here to read the evidence report.

Renewable Energy in the Green Belt in Bath & North East Somerset – 2013

Regen produced informal guidance for Bath & North East Somerset Council to inform their decisions about what constitutes the “very special circumstances” under which renewable energy planning applications can be approved in the Green Belt.  Click here to read the guidance note.

Planning for solar parks – 2010

In 2010, at the start of the ground-mounted solar revolution, Regen worked with lawyers and planners to produce best practice guidance for solar farms.   The guidance set out the key planning considerations for developers and decision makers.
