Project duration: October 2019 – March 2021
Regen is a partner in a new £4 million Innovate UK-funded project to install 150 rapid chargepoints in Exeter and the surrounding area. The technology is a world-first that combines semi-rapid (35kW) chargepoints, with lithium-ion energy storage, to reduce and buffer the impact of the installation on the electricity network. This is a solution to a significant barrier to the rollout of further rapid and ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The project will source electricity produced from a nearby solar farm, owned by Gamma Energy, to supply the Streethubz chargepoints via a sleeving electricity supply arrangement. Co-Cars will provide cost-effective, on-street Renault Zoe electric vehicle rental cars to boost awareness and adoption.
Regen will monitor when and how often the charging points are used, support engagement with local users and review and evaluate the potential for other areas to benefit from the technology.
